Research Notes on Breast Cancer Life Expectancy
The five-year survival rate for breast cancer is 80%. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. It is also the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women. Breast cancer rates have declined since 1990 because of early detection and more effective treatments. 1
Fast Facts:
- Prognosis is affected by the size and location of the tumor, whether it's hormone-receptor positive or negative, and gene expression, among other factors.1
- The five-year survival rate for breast cancer caught when it is still confined to a localized area is 98.3%.2
- Based on rates from 2004 - 2006, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lifetime.2
