Research Notes on Breast Cancer Genetics
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women, and is the second most common cause of cancer deaths. About 5-10% of breast cancers are known to have a genetic factor.
Fast Facts:
- Women with a family history of breast cancer have the option of having a BRCA Test that checks for variations in the genetic structure that can predispose them to breast cancer.
- Increased risk is associated with multiple SNPs, including rs2273535, rs2981582, rs3803662 and rs3817198.
- Breast cancer genes can be passed from either mother or father.
