Research Notes on Bone Lead Levels Linked to Heart Deaths
A new study shows that exposure to lead and concentrations of lead in bone may increase a person's risk for cardiovascular disease. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health and the University of Michigan School of Public Health have found that lead in the bones is associated with a higher risk of death. This is the first study to analyze bone lead and mortality.1
Fast Facts:
- Over 860 men with an average age of 67 were involved in this study.2
- Those with the highest concentrations of lead had a six times greater chance of dying.2
- This study is published in the September 2009 issue of Circulation.
