Research Notes on Bone Cancer
The most common symptom of bone cancer is pain; other symptoms may vary depending on the location and size of the cancer. Surgery is often the main treatment for bone cancer. Alternate treatments may include amputation, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

- Cancer that starts in a bone is rare.
- The three most common types of primary bone cancer are osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, and Ewing's sarcoma.
- Rarer types of primary bone cancer include malignant fibrous histiocytoma, fibrosarcoma, and chordoma.
- Cancer that starts elsewhere and metastasizes (spreads) to the bone is called secondary bone cancer.
- In addition to bone cancer, there are various types of benign bone tumors.
