Bob Dole is a retired United States Senator from Kansas from 1969–1996, serving part of that time as United States Senate Majority Leader. In 1991 he was diagnosed with prostate cancer that was surgically removed. After his prostate cancer, he then suffered from erectile dysfunction, as do many men after prostate surgery. He then became a spokesman for an erectile dysfunction medication Viagra. In December of 2004, he had a hip replacement operation which required him to receive blood thinners. One month after the surgery it was determined that he was bleeding inside his head. This left him with limited use of his left arm. In 2007, he was appointed by President George W. Bush to investigate problems at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
