Research Notes on Birth Control Implants
Birth control implants were warmly welcomed when they first became available in the U.S. in 1991. They were effective, long-acting (up to 5 years) and reversible. Norplant discontinued production in 2000 after the effectiveness of many of its lots produced in 1999 came into question. Implanon, the new version by Organon, was approved for use in the US in 2006 and is not widely available at the time of this writing.
