Research Notes on Birth Control
While abstinence is the only 100% effective form of birth control, there are many other options available now.1 Typically, a women is fertile for around 40 years of her life. If you choose to not conceive in this time, there are a variety of birth control methods offered.2
Fast Facts
- There are barrier methods (diaphragms, condoms, cervical caps), oral hormones (birth control pill), injectable hormones (birth control injection, birth control implant), hormonal patches, and many more.3
- Withdrawal, or "pulling out", is not an effective form of birth control.4
- Hormonal birth control options do not protect against STDs so it is important to always wear a condom as well.5
