Bipolar disorder is a mental illness also known as manic-depression or manic-depressive illness.1 According to pyschiatrists, individuals with bipolar disorder experience episodes of abnormally elevated levels of energy and impulsiveness known as mania or the manic phase of bipolar. They also go through the depressive phase which is characterized by symptoms of depression.2
