There are many side effects associated with medications for bipolar disorder.1 One of these side effects is weight gain.1 This does not occur with all medications for this disorder.1
Fast Facts:
- The drug Abilify does not cause weight gain when taken for bipolar disorder, but increases the risk of diabetes.1
- Weight gain from some medications can be serious enough to cause health problems.2
- Noticing this weight gain can make this mood disorder even worse on the patient.2
- Knowing which drugs can cause weight gain can help you and your doctor work out an exercise program or diet to counteract this side effect, according to psychiatrists.
