Bipolar depression is a phase of bipolar disorder.1 Bipolar depression may be marked by a persistent sad feeling or anxiety, pessimistic feelings, decreased energy, sleep disturbances, and thoughts of death.2 For it to be depression, symptoms must be present for two weekes or longer.1

- Significant weight loss or weight gain can occur with depression.1
- People with depression may have an inability to concentrate.1
- Depressed people often lack desire to engage in activities they once found pleasurable.1
