Research Notes on Bipolar Checklist for Kids
Bipolar disorder is sometimes hard to distinguish in children and young adults, with many parents attributing the symptoms of bipolar disorder to hormone fluctuations as a child grows up.1 The symptoms are often different in children and adults with bipolar, but parents may notice rapidly changing moods, separation anxiety, difficulty sleeping, or impaired judgment in a child with bipolar disorder.1 Checklists are available which a parent can fill out and present to your physician at your child's visit so that no potential symptoms are overlooked.2
Fast Facts:
- Other potential symptoms to be watchful for include lack of energy, depression, impulsive behavior, over or under eating, difficulty concentrating, and a pessimistic attitude.2
- In younger children, bed wetting or night terrors may be present.1
- Strong cravings for carbohydrates and sweets may also be a symptom of bipolar disorder in children.1
- You can take an OrganizedWisdom quiz on bipolar disorder to help shed light on whether or not your child may have this condition.
