Research Notes on Biofeedback for Dysthymia
Biofeedback is most often used as treatment for stress related conditions, by helping you to control the way your body reacts to certain stressors. Dysthymia is defined as mild depression. Consequently, biofeedback may help in the treatment of dysthymia.1
Fast Facts:
- Biofeedback refers to the mind's ability to influence involuntary functions of the body, such as blood pressure and heart rate.1
- Biofeedback may help to remove certain stressors, but does not cure dysthymia.1
- Biofeedback should be used as supplementary, and not primary, treatment for dysthymia.2
- Dyshtymia should be treated primarily by psychotherapy or antidepressant medications.2
