Research Notes on Biodynamic Psychotherapy
Biodynamic psychotherapy is a branch psychotherapy developed by Gerda Boyesen, a Norwegian psychologist, Reichian psychotherapist and physiotherapist.1 The theory of this branch of psychotherapy focuses on the organic link between the body and the psyche.1
Fast Facts:
- The term "biodynamic" refers to the concept of life energy flowing naturally and spontaneously.1
- Biodynamic psychotherapy uses biodynamic massage and vegetotherapy to work directly with emotional 'body armor.'2
- Biodynamic massage uses different techniques and levels of touch to suit each person's needs and body type.
- Biodynamic psychotherapists learn that the human organism's urge to express itself is not just a psychological concept but a biological reality, a real moving of the life energy and fluid inside the body.1
- Biodynamic psychotherapists use methods including dynamic listening, talking, massage, movement, vegetotherapy and emotional bodywork, contact and energy work, and writing, drawing and painting to get in touch with unconscious material and elaborate our awareness and potential.2
