Bexarotene is used in the treatment of cutaneous T cell lymphoma, lung cancer, breast cancer, and Kaposi's sarcoma. Bexarotene is available in both capsule form and topical gel and is sold under the brand name Targretin.
Fast Facts:
- Bexarotene will cause birth defects so contraception must be used. Most physicians recommend using two types of contraception to be safe.
- It may take several months before you receive the full benefit of taking bexarotene.
- Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking bexarotene.
- Insect repellents that contain DEET and vitamin A supplements can have a negative interaction with bexarotene skin gel.
