Macular degeneration is a disease that destroys the macula impairing central vision. For centuries it has been known that carrots and other vegetables loaded in beta-carotene are good for your eyesight. However recent studies have indicated that taking beta-carotene vs. not taking it the incidence of macular degeneration seemed to be the same.
