Studies have suggested that beta-carotene may aid the immune system in fighting infection. Speculation is beta-carotene's antioxidant capabilities prevent disease-fighting white blood cells from being destroyed by HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. It is important to note that high doses of Vitamin A has the opposite effect and can help the infections spread.
