Benzoic acid is a substance used as a food preservative commonly labeled as benzoic acid, benzoate (salt of benzoic acid), or E210-E213. It is a naturally occurring compound in prunes, cinnamon, tea, and berries. Benzoic acid can induce immune reaction in people who are allergic to the substance itself. One should check the labels of preserved food products to avoid accidental ingestion of BA.
