Research Notes on Benzodiazepine Withdrawal
Benzodiazepine withdrawal is comparable to alcohol withdrawal syndrome and barbiturate withdrawal syndrome. Apprehension over adverse effects from long term use have prompted patients to want to withdraw from benzodiazepines. Many people have successfully done so world-wide.1
Fast Facts:
- Patient observation has shown that the majority of long-term benzodiazepine users actually feel better after discontinuing medication.2
- Data suggests that benzodiazepines become ineffective after a few weeks or months of regular use.2
- Some symptoms of withdrawal include insomnia, panic attacks, anxiety, phobias, hallucinations, and depression3
