Research Notes on Beclomethasone
Beclomethasone is a steroid used to prevent wheezing and shortness of breath caused by asthma. It works by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. Some side effects inlcude: hoarseness, headache, dry throat, and voice changes.
Fast Facts:
- Sold under the brand names: Beclovent, Beconase, Qvar, Vancenase and Vanceril.
- Beclomethasone should be used with caution in patients with: history of Cushing's syndrome, herpes, tuberculosis, glaucoma, or cataracts.
- Beclomethasone does not work immediately and should not be used to relieve an asthma attack.
- It can take up to 4 weeks before you see the full effect of beclomethasone.
- Beclomethasone inhalations are usually for children 5 years of age and older.
