Research Notes on Bayberry
Commonly associated with Christmas, the bayberry shrub berries are coated with a wax that is used to make candles.1 Boiling the bark and roots of the plant will make a tea which is useful in treating diarrhea.1 It is also an excellent gargle for sore throats and tonsillitis.2

- The root bark contains antibacterial properties.3
- May be beneficial in treating liver and gallbladder problems.3
- In large amounts, can cause hypertension and deplete potassium.4
