Research Notes on Basal Cell Carcinoma Signs
The most common symptom of basal cell carcinoma is a small, skin-colored bump that may resemble a pimple or an open sore which never seems to heal.1 As the lesion grows, it may turn a pink color and may or may not have distinctive borders.1 Some lesions appear to have tiny blood vessels at the surface of the skin, and they are usually found on the head, face, or other areas prone to sun exposure.1
Fast Facts:
- Basal cell carcinomas rarely spread to other parts of the body, and they are slow growing.2
- Skin ulcers or sores that bleed easily and have pearly-white borders may be a symptom of basal cell carcinoma.3
- Areas of skin that have red or brown raised bumps on the surface should warrant testing for basal cell carcinoma.3
