Bardet Biedl syndrome is a debilitating genetic disorder that leads to obesity, extra digits (polydactyly), mental retardation, abnormal reproductive system (hypogonadism), kidney failure, damage to the retina, and other abnormal bodily functions and appearance.1 BBS is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern.2

  • If both parents are carriers, each child has a 25% chance of inheriting the genetic mutation that can lead to BBS.3
