Research Notes on Bacopa
Bacopa is a genus of 70 - 100 aquatic plants belonging to the family Plantaginaceae. It is commonly known as water hyssop. The herb shows significant psychotropic action as evidenced by excessive sleep and conformation changes in the brain as well as blood. - Known as brahmi in India.
- Has been used in Ayurvedic medicine as a diuretic and as a tonic for the nervous system and the heart since at least the sixth century.1
- Also used for asthma, mental illnesses, and epilepsy.1
- Use is supported by traditional use, but has minimal scientific evidence.1
