Research Notes on Back Pain Home Treatments
It is believed that back pain is felt regularly by up to 80% of the American public, and it has become the leading cause of disability in Americans under the age of 45.1 Many Americans attempt to treat back pain at home before visiting a physician and seeking more conventional back pain treatment. Exercise, massage, relaxation therapy, and yoga have all been reported to help ease back pain.1
Fast Facts:
- Bed rest has been shown to provide no benefit to back pain, but activities may need to be restricted in order to avoid further damage to the back.2
- NSAIDs, acetaminophen, and heat or ice packs may provide temporary relief.2
- If back pain does not improve within 72 hours with home treatment, consider seeking help from a medical professional.3
