Research Notes on Back Pain Causes
There are several conditions that cause back pain such as intervertebral disc degeneration, ruptured or herniated discs, spine injuries, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, infections, or tumors.1 Back pain is one of the most common medical complaints among patients; proper treatment depends on a proper diagnosis.2
Fast Facts:
- Stress can add to the severity of your back pain and how long it may last.1
- Back pain is a symptom not a medical condition in itself.1
- Diagnosing back pain may include x-rays, CT scan, MRI, or blood tests.3
- Depending on the cause, back pain treatment may involve exercises, medications, surgery, hot packs, or ice packs.3
