Research Notes on Avian Influenza in Domesticated Animals
Although Avian Influenza (H5N1) is relatively common to wild birds and poultry, humans and other mammals are also at risk of infection. Both domestic cats and birds have been detected with the virus. In the case of domestic cats, eating raw infected poultry has been considered the most likely source for infection. In domestic birds; those which have been illegally imported into the US have been the cause.
