Research Notes on Autumn Crocus
The autumn crocus is a hardy perennial plant that is also known as: colchicum, meadow saffron, fall crocus, mysteria, naked lady, vallorita and wonder bulb.1 As far back as the fifth century, physicians used the plant as a remedy to gout and arthritis.2 Today, the plant is still used for these purposes and may also be beneficial for treating hepatitis, cirrhosis and even in chemotherapy regimens.1
Fast Facts:
- Commonly found in the woods and damp meadows of Europe and North Africa.2
- Diarrhea may occur with use.1
- Should only be used while under the care of a trained professional as all parts of the plant are considered to have toxic effects.1
