Research Notes on Autism and the Flu
There have been concerns regarding autism and the flu. One concern is in regards to the thimerosal that is in a flu shot.1 Another concern is a link between having the flu during pregnancy and later development of autism in the unborn baby.2
Fast Facts:
- According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, there is no link between the flu shot and autism.1
- Researchers from the California Institute of Technology have discovered that the risk for autism is greater in children who's mother had the flu during pregnancy.2
- A maternal flu can also cause children to have schizophrenia.2
