Atopic dermatitis, also known as atopic eczema, is a long-lasting (chronic) skin problem. It causes itchy, inflamed skin.1 Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of dermatitis.2 It is not contagious; it cannot be spread from person to person.1

  • The most common symptoms are dry and itchy skin and rashes on the face, inside the elbows, behind the knees, and on the hands and feet.3
  • It is most common in children, but can occur at any age.2
  • Children with atopic dermatitis may also have asthma or hay fever.1
