Research Notes on Ativan Drug Interactions
Before using Ativan (lorazepam), you should be aware of the possible drug interactions. The use of antidepressants, antipsychotics, and barbiturates while taking Ativan can possibly increase your risk of experiencing side effects.1 If your health care provider recommends using Ativan, be sure to tell them about all prescription or over-the-counter medications you are currently using.2

- Ativan is used to treat anxiety.
- Ativan is also used off-label to treat the muscle spasms that are common in people with multiple sclerosis.3 While Ativan is not FDA-approved to treat multiple sclerosis, some doctors prescribe it for this purpose.
- The use of Ativan in combination with narcotics, alcohol, and sleep medications can increase the chance of you experiencing drowsiness.2
- You should also avoid combining seizure medications with Ativan.1
