Research Notes on Atelectasis Symptoms
The most common symptom associated with atelectasis is shortness of breath. Depending on the severity of the condition, the symptoms can range from unnoticeable to severe. Other symptoms of atelectasis include tachycardia and cyanosis.1 If you develope any of these symptoms, consult with your physician for an accurate diagnosis. Fast Facts:
- Atelectasis is most commonly caused due to a blockage in one of the bronchial tubes or pressure on the outside of the lungs.2
- Other possible symptoms associated with atelectasis include chest pain and coughing.2
- A bronchoscopy or chest x-ray can be useful in diagnosing atelectasis.2
- Patients with atelectasis may be at higher risk for developing pneumonia.2
