A number of competitive swimmers suffer from asthma or exercise-induced asthma. There are also studies that cite chlorine in swimming pools induce asthma in competitive swimmers. It is therefore of utmost importance that their asthma is controlled by medications. Use of inhaled anti-inflammatory medicines and bronchodilators is allowed, however, taking corticosteroids in tablet, syrup, suppository or injectable form is not.
