The most common asthma treatments are inhaled corticosteroids and bronchodilators. In addition, oral or intravenous corticosteroids are given for acute exacerbations.

- Medications used to treat asthma include long-term control medications, quick-relief (rescue) medications and medications to treat allergies.
- Long term medications include: inhaled corticosteroids, long-acting beta-2 agonsits (LABAs), leukotriene modifiers, Cromolyn (Intal) and Nedocromil (Tilade), Theophylline.
- Quick relief medications include: short-acting beta-2 agonists, Ipratropium (Atrovent), oral and intravenous corticosteroids.
- Medications for allergy-induced asthma include: immunotherapy, anti-IgE monocional antibodies.
