Research Notes on Asthma Specialists and Pulmonologists in Indiana
Asthma specialists are doctors who understand respiratory problems and treat asthma and asthma-related conditions. A pulmonologist, or pulmonary disease specialist, is one type of asthma specialist that treats asthma. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine doctor (internist) or a pediatrician who is a specialist in respiratory disease and lung conditions.1 Specialists that treat asthma are pulmonologists, otolaryngologists (ENTs), pediatricians, internists, allergists and immunologists, and pulmonary rehabilitation specialists. 2 Here are resources to help you find asthma specialists who are pulmonologists throughout Indiana.
Allergic asthma (extrinsic asthma), non-allergic asthma (intrinsic asthma), occupational asthma (work-related asthma), nocturnal asthma (nighttime asthma), steroid-resistant asthma, and cough-variant asthma (asthma with a chronic cough) are the main types of asthma.3 4 5 Exercise-induced asthma (EIA), or exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB), is a type of asthma that affects people during exercise. 6
