Research Notes on Asthma Inhalers
Asthma inhalers are one of the most effective ways to deliver medication. A metered dose inhaler (MDI) uses a small canister to quickly deliver asthma medication.1 Dry powder asthma inhalers (DPIs), which require you to breath deeply, are difficult to use during an asthma attack.1 The type of inhaler you use depends on what kind of medications you are taking, how deeply you can breathe, and your dexterity.2
Fast Facts:
- Most inhalers require little or no maintenance.2
- Inhalers are used to deliver medications such as bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and nedocromil.1
- If you are unable to use an inhaler, you may need to use a nebulizer.2
