Asbestosis is the inflammation of the outer covering of the lungs due to chronic inhalation of asbestos. Asbestos is a mineral that can cause scarring of lung tissue, thus, resulting to decrease elasticity of the lungs and, making it difficult to fully expand. A person with asbestosis can present with shortness of breath, nail clubbing, dry inspiratory crackles, increased mucous secretion, and pale skin. Treatments offered are oxygen therapy, nebulization, mucous secretion clearance and aerobic exercise.
