Research Notes on Artificial Sunlight for Psoriasis
Artificial sunlight used in light therapy can be beneficial for people with psoriasis. While artificial sunlight is not a primary treatment option, it can supplement other treatments and may help skin with psoriasis in some cases. A light therapy plan should be designed by your physician and followed according to instructions, as overexposure to light may make psoriasis worse.1

- Skin with psoriasis benefits from a type of UV light called UVB.2
- Artificial sunlight treatments allow for the manipulation of a person's exposure to UVB rays.3
- In some artificial light treatments, patients are given psoralen, a medicine that makes the skin more sensitive to light.1
- The entire light spectrum is not used in the treatment of psoriasis with artificial sunlight.3
