Research Notes on Arteriosclerosis
Arteriosclerosis is a hardening of the arteries. With arteriosclerosis the walls of the arteries thicken. The arteries lose their elasticity and become stiff.1
Fast Facts:
- While atherosclerosis is the most common, there other types of arteriosclerosis that include focal calcific arteriosclerosis (Mönckeberg's sclerosis), arteriosclerosis obliterans, and arteriolosclerosis.2
- Arteriosclerosis can occur in any artery of the body.3
- Some cases of arteriosclerosis may begin in childhood.4
