Research Notes on Aricept Contraindications

Aricept is one of the most widely used medications to treat Alzheimer's disease on the market today.1 Despite its widespread use, some patients are not candidates for Aricpet treatment. Those who have hypersensitivity to donepezil hydrocholoride or peperidine derivatives should not take Aricept.2 Those with heart conditions may also be advised not to take Aricept due to the risk of heart block or slowed beating of the heart.2

Fast Facts:

  • If you suffer from a seizure disorder, you may not be a candidate for Aricept treatment.3
  • Be sure your doctor knows about any medication you take to treat stomach ulcers, as this can impact your ability to take Aricept.1
  • Tell your doctor about any problems with urination or enlarged prostate prior to starting Aricept treatment.4
  • Pregnant women, or women who wish to become pregnant, should only take Aricept if the benefits clearly outweigh the potential risks to an unborn baby.4
