Anxiety Medications

GuideWisdom™

This WisdomCard managed by: Tara Salamone

Anti-anxiety medications, also called anxiolytics, are used for treating symptoms of anxiety. These drugs are often administered in combination with other treatment approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy. Aggressive use of anti-anxiety drugs may cause delayed reflexes, depressed alertness, slurred speech, and postural instability. Chronic or prolonged use of anxiolytics may lead to abuse or dependence and may induce withdrawal symptoms when abruptly stopped.
