Research Notes on Anxiety, Depression and Miscarriage
Approximately 15% of recognizable pregnancies will end in miscarriage.1 Often, women are left with feelings of grief, anger, anxiety and panic.2 Although it is normal to feel sad after a miscarriage, there is difference between grief and clinical depression. The best indicator is how the sadness and grief is affecting your daily life.3
Fast Facts:
- If you have suffered a miscarriage, it is important to maintain open communication with family, friends and health care providers during this time.1
- Stay busy. Finding a new hobby, learning a new skill, or volunteering and helping others can help to keep your mind off of your grief.4
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help! If your symptoms persist for several weeks, it is important to get professional help. Treatments and medications are available that can help. If you experience any suicidal thoughts call 911 immediately.4
