Antispasmodics are drugs used to relax the smooth muscles of the stomach, intestines, or bladder.1 They are most commonly prescribed for the relief of cramping and spasms associated with irritable bowel syndrome. Antispasmodic medications are usually taken 30 to 45 minutes before meals.2
