Antisocial personality disorder is a mental disorder that features a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood.1 Scientists study and try different ways to examine how well a new treatment works and explore factors that affect mental disorders.

- According to DSM-IV, antisocial personality disorder is diagnosed in approximately three percent of all males and one percent of all females.1
- The Macdonald triad, which can be found in some children and has the potential to develop antisocial personality disorder, consists of bedwetting, a tendency to abuse animals, and pyromania.1
- The exact cause of this disorder is unknown, but biological or genetic factors may play a role.1
