Antioxidants and Macular Degeneration

GuideWisdom™

This WisdomCard managed by: Kricel Abreu

Macular degeneration affects over 10 million Americans and is the major cause of blindness among adults over the age of 55. There are two types of Macular degeneration: dry and wet, with the former comprising about 90% of the cases. Antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C and E, carotenoids, selenium, and zinc, help protect the retina by preventing the development of this condition or delaying its progression if one already has it.
