Antioxidants and Cataracts

Research Notes on Antioxidants and Cataracts

Recent studies show that antioxidants neutralize the effects of free radicals which help prevent or decrease the risk of cataract. Free radicals damage the lens proteins in the eyes, causing visual problems. It is advised that antioxidant-rich foods, such as citrus fruits, carrots, and green leafy vegetables be consumed to prevent cataract and its complications.
