Research Notes on Antidepressants for Incontinence
An antidepressant is a psychiatric drug used for alleviating depression. One of its unlabeled uses is for treating of urinary incontinence. Duloxetine (a tricyclic antidepressant), for example, has been studied for its effects on urinary incontinence. It was found that it cannot cure stress urinary incontinence, however, it was successful in reducing episodes of incontinence by roughly 50%. Antidepressants may not be suitable for some people, so it is necessary to consult a health professional before taking these medications to treat incontinence.
