Research Notes on Antidepressant Withdrawal Syndrome
Antidepressant withdrawal syndrome also known as antidepressant discontinuation syndrome is the symptoms that occur when you stop taking antidepressant medications abruptly. It is not dangerous or life threatening. Taking your medication as directed is the best way to avoid these symptoms.1

- Symptoms may include anxiety, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and nausea.2
- It can begin within 24 hours to one week of discontinuing medication.3
- It is recommended that you taper off these medications gradually under a doctor's supervision.4
- Antidepressants may be used in the treatment of depression, bipolar disorder, and some other mood disorders.5
