Research Notes on Anti-Seizure Drugs for Fibromyalgia
Anti-seizure drugs are sometimes used to treat the symptoms of fibromyalgia.1 Gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica) were shown to reduce fibromyalgia pain and relieve fatigue.2 Anti-seizure drugs have also helped to alleviate the burning feeling that some fibromyalgia sufferers experience in their hands.3
Fast Facts:
- The use of Topamax (topiramate) to treat fibromyalgia has been studied, but it has not been approved yet.2
- Your health care provider may recommend the use of a combination of drugs to treat your symptoms.3
- Lyrica is the first anti-seizure drug approved for the treatment of fibromyalgia.1
