Antiretroviral drugs are medications used to treat infections caused by retroviruses, primarily HIV. 1 When three or four anti-retroviral drugs are taken in combination, the approach is known as highly active antiretroviral therapy, or HAART.1 A strict regimen of anti-retroviral drugs are considered based on involving patients in therapy choices and analyzing the risks of side effects.1
