Research Notes on Anti-Epileptic Drugs

Medications for epilepsy do not cure epilepsy but help to prevent the occurrence of seizures. Most drugs for seizures are central nervous system depressants which suppress the electrical activity in the nerve cells of the brain. Maintenance of prescribed medication is very important in controlling the episodes of seizures in people with epilepsy. Certain anti-epileptic drugs also work well as mood stabilizers and are also used in the treatment of bipolar disorder and similar mood disorders.
